Ah, the beach

 

I just returned from a few days on the beach - the Oregon coast beach. (more on that to come).

Before I left - I did another Jessica Sprague site challenge. Using the words "day off" in the title, we were to create a layout page of what we'd do with a full day off. Since most of my retirement days are "days off" I used what I'd love to do most if/when I had a day off the grid and my usual daily routine.

With the sun finally coming out to give us a late summer, we headed to Larrabee Park to search for sea stars at low tide. We found a lot of large, purple sea stars mostly clustered together with a few renegades here and there. The most shocking thing was that we had to pay $10 to enjoy this state park. The state eliminated the short lived parking fees a couple of years ago, but now added a $10 use fee for the day. They obviously didn't learn their lesson with the original parking fees that created empty state parks.  Really? $10.00? Give me a break!

For Sure......

A recent scrapbook page for the weekly Jessica Sprague site challenge. This week the prompt was to use the phrase What I Know For Sure and scrapbook the first thing you thought of.  I don't much for sure .. but, I do know that I love doing digital scrapbooking instead of paper scrapbooking. I still get my hands in the glue pot doing all my Sam'Studio products to sell on Etsy and at our Allied Arts Juried Festival in the fall. That's enough for me.

Being Published - again......

One of my scrapbook pages is being published in Scrapbook News and Review for their June issue (June 12th release date).  You've all seen the page - it is the Mumford and Sons layout (May 3rd post) I did and posted here a while back. I haven't submitted any of my work in ages and last month I decided I needed an update to my scrapbook resume and went for it. Check it out --- but, remember you saw it first here.......

Who do you Admire?

A recent scrapbook layout challenge on the Jessica Sprague site (one I frequently join for the challenges) was to pick a famous person that you admire or inspires you.  I could have picked a few - but, Teddy came to mind first. Especially, after visiting the Badlands and the Theodore Roosevelt National Park and again spending time on the Washington D.C. island with his memorial. Both fantastic sites! Here's my entry to the challenge using web photos. Bully!

More Scrapbook Layouts

It was last October when I flew to San Francisco (via Portland) to experience the free Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival. It was defiantly hardly strictly bluegrass music, too. We danced, we sang, we ate, we clapped, we roared with the crowds and we had a great time. Here's the first of the HSBF layouts I've made to capture the memory and put them in the books until I go again this October.

Have you ever been to the Oregon Coast?

When we moved to the northwest over 30 years ago (okay, now I'm feeling old(er)) we were excited to be back near the ocean -- the pacific ocean. Since we had relatives only 4 hours south in Oregon, that meant trips to the coast. Every summer my sister-in-law and I would load up the kids and head to a rented coastal cabin. I have great memories of all those trips - the sandcastles, the kites, the walks on the beach (with a pocket filled with M&M's) and crab dinners. The vast sandy beaches, crashing breakers and little hamlet coastal towns are still there and just waiting for us. This year, the Oregon coast trip will be for a niece's wedding - perfect!
